It requires Token which can be downloaded from http://drupal.org/node/252208

Reason for the Invite module

I want to create a community blog that is driven by content that is targeted to the community that creates it. Therefore, I don't want to allow random users to be able to create accounts because that does not enable me to ensure that people with content creating privileges are creating content that is interesting to the broader community on this website. Letting users sign up at random also increases the chance that this site will become a victim of spam.

Impact on performance

I don't think this module will affect the load on the servers in any significant way.
